A Sunriver vacation can create wonderful memories for families from all over the country, and especially for those traveling from Washington, California, and other parts of Oregon. The first rule of thumb to packing for your Central Oregon getaway is to prepare for outdoor activities in a mountain town.

Many tourists visit Central Oregon to camp, mountain bike, fish, or float on the Deschutes River. If you are packing for any or all of these outdoor activities during your Sunriver vacation, here are five things you want at the top of your packing list.

1. Layers and Layers

Whether on the slopes of Mt. Bachelor or the nearby hiking trails, if you are going to be exploring our great outdoors, packing these basic layers will help you stay comfortable:

Winter: Fleece jackets, base layers, ski jacket or warm coat, gloves, wool or cashmere socks
Spring/Fall: Long-sleeve t-shirts, rain jackets, sweatshirts, jeans, shorts
Summer: Light jackets, sweaters, shorts, jeans, hiking pants, cotton socks2. Sun Protection! Sunglasses and Hats

Central Oregonians love to boast about the more than 300 days of sunshine a year the area receives and with the Cascade Range mountain range peaks reaching over 10,000 feet, bringing appropriate eye and skin protection from harmful UV rays is a must.

3. Comfy Footwear

When it comes to packing shoes, the second rule of thumb for an amazing Sunriver vacation is to choose comfort over fashion. We like to keep it casual in Central Oregon. So, whether you are browsing art galleries in Bend, shopping at The Village, hiking, or mountain biking, choose comfy shoes.

4. Swimsuits and Floatables

Thanks to Sunriver Homeowners Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC), visitors can splash around at this water playground even when it’s cold outside. There are indoor and outdoor pools for people of all ages, kiddie pools, and a hot tub. For the more adventurous, two water slides guarantee hours of fun. For those seeking relaxation, hop on an inner tube and let the current take you away—you might think you are at Disneyland.

5. Outdoor Gear

You won’t have much time to binge watch your favorite show while vacationing in Sunriver; unless, of course, that’s what you plan to do on vacation. Either way, you’ll want to bring a camera to capture Central Oregon’s scenic landscapes. Other gear to consider are binoculars for spotting Oregon wildlife and a GPS for hiking in the wilderness or geocaching in town.

Thanks to the proximity of Sunriver to Mt. Bachelor, you can enjoy spring skiing during the day and indulge in locally brewed Sunriver beer at the Sunriver Brewery.

From luxury vacation rentals and cozy Sunriver cabins to local merchant discounts and complimentary SHARC passes where available, an amazing Sunriver vacation awaits. Call Village Properties at 877-859-5346 for more information and to book your next stay in Central Oregon.
