Raptors of the Desert Sky @ High Desert Museum

The High Desert Museum invites you to “Raptors of the Desert Sky”.  Raptors take flight overhead in this intimate demonstration.  Experience these powerful predators up close as wildlife specialists showcase the birds’ agility and grace.  This program is a highlight of the Museum’s summer experience.  Hawks, owls, falcons and turkey vultures soar from perch to perch directly over the crowd seated in a natural amphitheater nestled in the Museum’s pine forest.  A Museum expert narrates the action and shares about the hunting strategies and natural behaviors of these spectacular birds of prey.

Half Day Kayaking, Paddleboarding or Canoeing Tour @ Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe

The Half Day Deschutes River Tour is available every Tuesday and Friday during the summer from 9am to 1pm.  Imagine floating on a kayak or canoe through a completely undeveloped, pristine and aqua-blue section of river in the heart of Deschutes National Forest. Paddling among lava flows stretching to Paulina Peak in Newberry Crater National Monument, Aspen groves, tranquil lagoons and side channels.  Tumalo Creek’s Half-Day Deschutes River Tour is the perfect mini-adventure for visitors who want to fit in another activity in the afternoon. The Half-Day Deschutes River Kayak Tour is suggested as a relaxing outing for visitors and locals of all ages and skill levels.

Sunset Dinners at Mt. Bachelor are Central Oregon’s most unique dining experience. Step out onto the deck while the sun still lingers over the scenic Cascade Range. Experience fixed-price dinner with family-style appetizer & salad choices and an individual choice of eight entrees…all at 7,800 feet. Dining with friends, family or that special someone, a Sunset Dinner at Pine Marten Lodge is one you won’t forget. Complete your night with a moonlight chairlift ride down the slopes of Mt Bachelor.

The Sunset Dinner package is $65 for adults and $29 for youth (6-12). The scenic chairlift ride and soft drinks are included, but alcoholic beverages, special-order items and gratuity are extra. A complimentary scenic chairlift ride is included with the Sunset Dinner experience.

Tumalo Creek Sundowner Standup Paddleboard Evening is a fun opportunity to get on the water for folks that have previous paddleboard experience. For only $25 you will be provided a paddleboard, PFD and paddle for 90 minutes on the beautiful Deschutes river. Our Sundowner Standup Paddleboard Night is designed for ages 16+ and will provide an engaging and affordable way to enjoy the river. Come enjoy a casual evening on the water followed by an optional sundowner beer on the back deck.  Monday nights in July and August from 6pm-8pm.

Family Rocketry @ Oregon Observatory

Family Rocketry is a summer activity the entire family can enjoy at The Oregon Observatory in Sunriver.  Participants will learn about the basic principles and history of rockets.  They will have time to do some assembly and decorating of their rockets before going out to launch them on site. This class is open to younger rocketeers ages 5 and up.  We also ask every group to have at least one adult present during the class.

Oregon High Desert Classic I @ J Bar J Youth Ranch

Oregon High Desert Classics are hosted on a beautiful 40-acre ranch in sunny Bend, Oregon. These premier AA hunter/jumper competitions attract top riders from all over the Western United States and Canada.

Space Rovers @ Oregon Observatory

Do you have what it takes to navigate a space rover?  Come to the Oregon Observatory and test your skills on Earth by navigating an obstacle course with a remote-controlled rock crawler and learn how rovers have played a key role in our understanding of other worlds. Each child will then build and personalize their own solar rover to take home. Ages 8-15.

Family Fun Float @ Sunriver Resort Marina

Sunriver Resort invites you to treat the family to a Family Fun Float.   Guides will lead you two leisurely miles down the beautiful Deschutes River in a 6-person raft.  You can enjoy a stunning late afternoon sunset and Cascade Mountain views. Enjoy refreshments, games and live entertainment after you float.  This event takes place every Wednesday night during the summer season.

Music in the Canyon @ American Legion Park

Red Elvises @ McMenamins

You simply can’t miss this band!  The Red Elvises are led by Igor Yuzov (formerly of the Soviet Union) where folk music was norm and rock’n’roll was illegal.  That didn’t stop him from seeking out the forbidden music and heading to America with his “Folk’n’Roll band Limpopo.  They won Ed McMahon’s Star Search.  Over the years Igor’s music has been labeled “Siberian Surf Rock” with humorous lyrics and grooves that you have to dance to!  Red Elvises have toured all over the world and everywhere they go – its a party!  This is a FREE concert brought to you by McMenamins in Father Luke’s Room on July 17th 7-10pm.

 

Teen Night Pool Party @ SHARC

Too Slim & The Taildraggers @ Tower Theatre

Too Slim and The Taildraggers will be playing at The Tower Theater on July 17th.  This group performs an eclectic style of blues, rock and Americana.  They appeal to audiences of varying musical tastes.

Tim Langford has won multiple individual awards for Best Guitarist, Best Slide Guitarist, and Best Songwriter and the band is in the Hall of Fame in three Northwest blues societies. The band’s 2013 release “Blue Heart” reached as high as #3 on the BillBoard Top Blues Album Chart and Shiver, the bands previous release was a 2012 Blues Music Award nominee for “Blues Rock Recording of the Year”.

Cork & Barrel @ varies

Held in Bend, Oregon, Cork & Barrel is an annual three-day wine and food event series benefiting KIDS Center. Each year Cork & Barrel brings a different and unique wine region to Central Oregon.  In 2019, we are proud to feature the wines of Southern Oregon!

Rocket Science @ Oregon Observatory

Calling all rocketeers!  Come to the Oregon Observatory on Thursdays throughout the summer and learn more about the principles of rocketry.  You’ll also explore the history of rockets and the future of space exploration.  Then, build and launch your own large model rocket.  These are the largest rockets allowed to launch at the Oregon Observatory.

Ages 8-15 Registration is required.

Sagebrush Sippers @ Oregon Natural Desert Association

Join Oregon Natural Desert Association staff and supporters for Sagebrush Sippers happy hours in our office this summer. Mix and mingle, learn about new aspects of Oregon’s high desert, and find opportunities to dig deeper into our conservation work.

Munch & Music Free Concert @ Drake Park

Every Thursday, July 12th – August 16th in Drake Park. The evening kicks off at 5:30pm with live music. The Munch & Music food court is sure to have something for everyone! As one of the largest gatherings of all you favorite local food trucks and vendors; make sure you arrive hungry!

The Deschutes Brewery Libation Stations will be available with beer, wine and a specialty cocktail weekly. With our walk-around policy, you can roam the area freely with your beverage! No outside alcohol is allowed on the event premise.

DOG POLICY

We love your dogs, but please leave them at home. Our event attracts large crowds of people and many small children. Thank you for sparing your pup the overwhelming atmosphere by leaving them at home.

LOCATION

Located in the iconic Drake Park of downtown Bend, head downtown and you can’t miss us! With an outdoor amphitheater nestled just along the Deschutes River, this is an ideal spot for a weekly picnic with live music and lots of grassy knolls to share. Lawn seating only. Only low back chairs are permitted. And, please be courteous of those willing to sit on the ground and place your chairs towards the back of the concert seating area. Swan Baby Shower @ Sunriver Nature Center

Sunriver Nature Center invites you to celebrate the hatching of Lake Aspen’s newest residents – four fuzzy Trumpeter Swan cygnets!  They are hosting a Swan Baby Shower!!  Learn more about Trumpeter Swans through guided walks for close up views of the swans, educational stations, and fun activities for the kids including face painting and swan crafts and games. Local author Alice Elshoff will also be reading her recently published children’s book, “How Grace Got Her Name.”

All activities are included in general daytime admission: $7/adult, $5/child (ages 4-12)

Solar System Outing @ Oregon Observatory

Journey deep into space at the Oregon Observatory and learn more about our solar system.  The Solar System Odyssey tour will begin as you step inside the new state-of-the-art, inflatable planetarium for an immersive experience. We’ll be transported from Earth to the Sun, Moon, and other planets as we explore space. After the tour, each child will customize their own solar system model to take home. Ages 8-15.

Art in the West Exhibition Reception @ High Desert Museum

Art in the West is an extraordinary exhibition of traditional and contemporary art that will open at the High Desert Museum on July 19th.  Art in the West is also a silent auction and features an array of price points.  View the art gallery guide online.  The exhibition opens on Friday, July 19th with a reception at the Museum from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.  This free event offers the public a first viewing of the exhibition as well as the chance to mingle with some of the artists.  Silent bidding will begin that evening, and there is also the opportunity to purchase artwork outright.  The bidding culminates on Saturday, August 24 at the 30th annual High Desert Rendezvous, the Museum’s signature fundraising

Big Lawn Music Series @ Suttle Lake Lodge
