The High Desert Museum invites you to “Raptors of the Desert Sky”.  Raptors take flight overhead in this intimate demonstration.  Experience these powerful predators up close as wildlife specialists showcase the birds’ agility and grace.  This program is a highlight of the Museum’s summer experience.  Hawks, owls, falcons and turkey vultures soar from perch to perch directly over the crowd seated in a natural amphitheater nestled in the Museum’s pine forest.  A Museum expert narrates the action and shares about the hunting strategies and natural behaviors of these spectacular birds of prey.

Fall Foliage Tour @ Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe

Tumalo Creek invites you to explore the Upper Deschutes River on their special Fall Foliage Deschutes River Tour! Enjoy this pristine and tranquil section of the river during the peaceful autumn season. Observe the changing colors, listen for bird songs and look for signs of beaver.  Tour takes place every Tuesday and Friday in September from 10-2pm.

Similar to our half-day tour on the Upper Deschutes River we’ll paddle upstream towards Benham falls exploring the wetland marshes, aspen groves, and pine forests. On this serene section of river paddlers will see interesting lava flow formations that surged down from Paulina Peak when this volcano erupted creating the Newberry Crater National Monument. The trip ends with a relaxing paddle back to the put-in.

24th Annual Model Train Open House @ Eastern Cascades Railroad

Every year Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Club opens our doors to the public for a day of free fun & enjoyment for kids big and small.
See the railroad come to life as you ride along on the outdoor layout. A new mining camp has sprung up this year on the upper loop, after riding the rails take a stroll up top and check it out.
We’ve made considerable upgrades to our indoor layout this year too. Smoother operations with DCC control allow for realistic operations. You’ll hear steam engines chug and chime. Diesels and dynamic brakes roaring along adding realism to the layout.
Thanks to generous community support we’ve been able to make extensive improvements that we look forward to sharing.

Star Dome Planetarium Experience @ Sunriver Nature Center

Sunriver Nature Center invites you to the Star Dome.  Join them in their inflatable planetarium for an interpreter led guided tour of space.  Each showing lasts for approximately 25 minutes and is limited to 15 guests. 2019 PacAm @ Sunriver Resort Golf Courses

The 2019 Pacific Amateur Golf Classic, presented and managed by Sunriver Resort, is the driving force for championship-caliber amateur golf in the West. This prestigious annual event will celebrate its 23rd year during the final week of September and we hope you will join us.  The PacAm is a three-day, 54-hole stroke-play tournament, culminating in playoff competition at Sunriver Resort’s Crosswater Golf Course.

Every registered participant is guaranteed one round of your tournament play on Sunriver Resort’s nationally renowned Crosswater Course, ranked in the Top 100 Courses You Can Play by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. Whether or not you qualify for the Championship Round at Crosswater; just by entering the PacAm you’ll have the opportunity to play this world-class course. The three-day, net, stroke-play tournament takes place on the three Sunriver Resort golf courses including; Crosswater, Meadows, and Woodlands. The PacAm offers divisions for golfers of every skill level including: the Open/Gross Division for golfers looking to play without handicaps, multiple Competitive Net Divisions separated by age (Men, Senior Men, Mid-Senior, Super Senior, and Women) and the Non-competitive Division for the golfer looking for all of the great fun of the PacAm but with the allowance of the occasional foot wedge.

Food & Farm Haiku contest @ Sisters Farmers Market at Fir Street Park

What’s small, mysterious, and bursting with flavor? A truffle, perhaps. A perfectly ripe raspberry. Or a tiny poem about delicious local foods.

The State of Oregon’s official Poet Laureate, Kim Stafford, has signed on as the judge for the Food & Farm Haiku contest at Sisters Farmers Market’s special Tea & Poetry event on Sunday, September 22. Anyone can enter the contest, and need not be present to win.

Entrants may use the popular American style of writing haiku: a three-line poem featuring a 5-7-5 syllable structure. Alternately, they may choose to write in the Japanese tradition, focusing on how their words and imagery evoke the seasons rather than counting syllables.

Food & Farm Haiku contest entries may be dropped off in person at Paulina Springs Books or Sisters Farmers Market; entry is free. The deadline is September 18 at 2 p.m. Details can be found at

Sisters Farmers Market is open through the end of September, on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fir Street Park, one block north of Cascade Ave/Hwy 20. Co-presented by New Oregon Arts & Letters, the Tea & Poetry event is funded in part by grants from the Roundhouse Foundation and the City of Sisters. It will feature activities for adults and kids, with poetry playshop leader Krayna Castelbaum, a poetry booth from Deschutes County Library, and tea tastings.

Pickin’ & Paddlin’ Concert Series @ Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe

What began as a couple of kayakers creating tunes on the back deck after a long day on the river, has grown into Pickin’ N’ Paddlin’ 2019, a cult-classic community celebration to raise funds for Bend Paddle Trail Alliance (BPTA) whose mission is to establish a navigable paddle trail within Deschutes County to enhance river and lake recreation opportunities while promoting water safety, education, and stewardship.  Come to Tumalo Creek & Kayak for great music, food, dancing in the grass and camaraderie.

$10 covers entrance, additional $10 for a reusable stainless steel cup and three drink tickets.

Tickets are pre-sold in order to manage capacity. Pre-sale tickets are available through the Tumalo Creek website only and will soon be available. Bring your receipt and ID to get in. There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door on a first come first serve basis. The legendary John McEuen will be playing with the String Wizards at the Tower Theater on 9/27.  You will remember John from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and benchmark album “Will The Circle Be Broken”.  

His multi-media show with archival photographs, film, (including 8mm footage from 1967), Circle session photos, narrative (and early) NGDB music takes us on his 50+ year journey – interwoven with Dirt Band favorites and hot bluegrass.

A unique part of the show covers the 1977 Russia trip, and what happened behind the Iron Curtain to the first American band to tour there – 28 sold out shows.

Radium Dial, the company, assures them that there is no evidence that radium is harmful.  This production chronicles the strength and determination of women considered expendable in their day, exploring their true story and its continued resonance.

CROP announces a Saturday Farmers Market in Prineville at Stryker Park.  Come buy locally grown produce, beef, pork, bison, lavender and so much more.  Support our local farmers/ranchers.  Crooked River Open Pastures (C.R.O.P.), a project of the Crook County Small Farm Alliance, is a series of events taking place throughout the Crooked River Basin at various farms and farm supported locations.  On the third Saturday of each summer month,  this event will move to various local farms and will feature farm tours, a farmers market and in some cases, music and additional fun filled activities. Don’t miss this once-a-year chance to taste Fresh Hop Beer.  The Sisters Fresh Hop Festival will be located at Three Creeks Brewing’s production location in Sisters, OR.  What is fresh hop beer? In order for a beer to be considered “fresh hopped,” the hops must be picked and then brewed within 24 hours. The only time fresh hop beer can be created is during harvest season in late summer, early fall.

The main speaking event will be Sunday September 29th. Come join us at McMenamins Old St. Francis School in downtown Bend on Sunday September 29th beginning at 9:00 a.m. The event will last the entire day and features world renowned speakers, researchers, and television celebrities all sharing their knowledge of the legendary beast known as Bigfoot. This year’s speakers include television stars Cliff Barackman of Finding Bigfoot, and Ken Gerhard of In Search of Monsters in addition to the hosts of Monster X Radio, Gunnar Monson and Shane Corson. Shane, a member of the Olympic Project, will also be speaking. Mark Myrsell, who rediscovered the site of the infamous Ape Canyon attack, Tom Broadhead of The Bigfoot Field Research Organization, and recently added, Shelly Covington-Montana, a certified wildlife tracker and well known researcher, will all be featured speakers. The film makers of Pacific NorthWeird will be on hand and Monster X Radio will be hosting a town hall. In addition to the amazing list of speakers, McMenamins brewmasters will be featuring a special beer brewed exclusively for the event in addition to the food and beverage menu.

Singing a wide range of repertoire from Baroque to Jazz to folk, Bend Camerata is known for their highly innovative programming and educational projects.
